Hi All,

In My Answer Writing Strategy post I dealt with nuances of answer writing that helped me score 340, 387, 426 and 463 in GS in CSE 13, 14, 15 and 17 respectively.

Also, I have already dealt with other aspects like diagrams for mains, how to break down questions into parts and how to reduce time to think during writing answers.

This post deals with presentation part of answer writing. You must have heard that answer presentation must be good to score big in Mains.

Presentation includes following aspects:

  • It is an understatement to say that writing should be readable. This is most important aspect of presentation. If I am unable to read your answer, i won’t give you good marks. No rocket science here. You have to work on handwriting.
  • Do not cut or scribble. Present neat answers. Examiners are paid to check your answers. If cuttings are absent then reading and checking becomes easy. Quicker they are able to check, happier they are.
  • Do not write anything inside margins, even numberings or bullets. Instructions clearly prohobit writing anything within margins.
  • Leave apt space between different sub-parts of answer. Example, between introduction and next part of answer.

  • Write in points. Ensure that you number points clearly. Circling number is advised. ©️
  • If you are writing 10 points then after 5th point, draw a diagram to break monotony of answer. This is very very important from innovation point of view as well.
  • There in no need to label each diagram. Also, you are not required to draw a box outside diagrams. Time isn’t enough to do all this. If you are able to do, then good. It is not mandatory.
  • Underline important lines or keywords to get attention of examiner. This helps in gaining more marks.

  • Draw a line at end of each answer marking end of your answer.
  • If you are provided 3 pages for an answer and your answer ends by 1.5 page then cut remaining blank spaces with a line.
  • Do not mark anything in the question printed on answer sheet. Inculcate this habit during answer writing practice. Mark in question paper only, not answer sheet.
  • Do not write anything other than required answer in the answer sheet.
