Question 7 Gs-1 History: What were the main terms of treaty of Versailles as established in Paris Peace conference? Why did it fail in creating lasting peaceful order? (200 words, 12.5 marks)
Structure/Theme:
1. Mention news background of 100 years of treaty last year. Once you do so, examiner would know that you know all about the question.
2. First write about paris peace conference in few lines. Mention in bullets names of various treaties that were signed in that conference.
3. Terms of Versailles. 4 points.
4. Why did it fail. 4 points.
5. Diagram. Chronological sequences of events that depict its failures.
6. Conclusion (what happened post its failure).
In history ques always answer not only what is asked but also the events before and after that particular event.

1. What are apmc? Any act name? 2-3 points.
2. Write their aim in a paragraph of 2-3 lines. This is because you have to show that they are counter to what they were made for. Then mention in 3 points how they are counterproductive.
3. Market issues 3 points.
4. Farmer issues 3 points.
5. Govt steps 3 points.
This makes total 15+ points in answer. Hence, breaking ques into parts is important to know how much to write in which sub part.
6. Include committee names related to APMC, Agriculture, Farmers, Marketing etc.

Question 9 Gs-1 History-Geography-Gs-3 Environment: Protection of cultural heritage is a vast exercise in itself. How does climate present challenge(s) in same? Elaborate role of INTACH in art and culture. (200 words, 12.5 marks)
Structures/Themes:
1. Cultural Heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a community and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. Cultural Heritage is often expressed as either Intangible or Tangible Cultural Heritage.
2. List why protection is hence a vast exercise.
3. Challenges of climate in tangible culture.
4. Challenges in intangible: Climate change moves people away from their homes, reduces livestock and materials, such changes in the way people live has definitely some effects on their cultures, and also the intangible aspects of cultures.
5. Role of INTACH.
6. Always focus on division of question into sub parts. This is important in all GS papers but more so in history GS. This is becausr many a times questions are out of box and have less content. So division helps in increasng content.

Question 10 Gs-4 applied ethics: Professional ethics are on a decline in government organizations. Do you agree? Justify your view(s) with example(s). How can Goleman model on Emotional Intelligence be used to boost professional ethics in organizations? (150 words, 10 marks)
Structures/Themes:
1. Define professional ethics. As professional ethics talks about skill competence vs holistic competence, include these 2 keywords in answer.
2. Decline yes or no? Approach to handle this:
(a) clear yes, justify, example
(b) clear no, justify, example
(c) ambiguous ans, both views, justify, example.
3. I would have taken (c) view.
4. Mention goleman model headings and link them wd prof ethics. Exmple: self awareness will help leaders to be aware about their own professional ethics and boost organizational values. Likewise, link rest 3 heads.

6. Conclusion.
7. Keep ethics answer example oriented with passing ref of theory.

Question 11 IR: India’s relations with South America continent have not been fully realized. Discuss highlighting country specific engagements realized and potential areas. What multilateral, regional and bilateral steps can be taken to boost the relations? (250 words, 15 marks).
Structure/Theme:
I gave this question because this particular continent is yet to be asked by upsc. All other continents apart from this and europe have been asked in some or other way.
(Last year I had predicted central asia and it was asked..)
1. Divide question in parts.
2. Address each part equally.
3. Parts are: relations not fully realized, country examples of realized relations, country examples of potential relations, multilateral steps, regional steps and bilateral steps.
4. 6 parts, 15 marks means about 2-3 points per part. Make headings for each..underline important keywords/lines.
5. Include IR specific terms like track 1, track 2, WTO, UNSC, Strategic partnership etc.
6. Draw south america rough map.
7. Conclusion.
Question 12 GS-3 Security: India-Afghan border has potential to be a hotbed of terrorist and other infiltrations. In this context, elaborate on border security mechanisms employed by India on its western international borders, including both land and maritime borders. (200 words, 12.5 marks)
Structure/Theme:
1. First explain india afghan border. Give facts related to it. Tell why in news (LOC, PoK).
2. First part: potential of terrorist infiltration. 3 points.
3. Second part: potential of pak army using that route against India. 3 points.
4. Third: border security on western front. Divide into land and maritime. Write 6-7 points in total. 2-3 should be in context of india afghan border.
