Hi All,

Following post details the preparation strategy that you may follow for the last 45 days ahead of prelims exam. As the strategy depends on how well you have prepared till now, i am providing two strategies as under.

For those who are thorough: If you are already thorough with your prelims preparation then you may do following in last 45 days:

  • As you are thorough with the course, you can easily revise the entire study material or notes thrice in 45 days.
  • Divide 45 days into 3 sets of 20 + 15 + 10 days and revise content thrice i.e. in 20 days, then 15 days and then in 10 days.
  • In each of these sets firstly focus on easier topics/subjects and the topics that are your strengths. Later part of each set should be dedicated to tougher topics/subjects so that they remain fresh in memory.
  • My advice is to keep factual topics such as History-viceroys/authors/committees, Polity-bodies, committees, Environment-lists of national parks, animals, tribes etc for later part of the sets. This is what I used to do to keep these topics fresh in mind.
  • Current affairs should be done till 15-20 ahead of prelims. In case you leave newspapers for more days then clearing backlog post prelims becomes hard.
  • Tests: I am assuming that you have solved at least 30 tests till date, including both sectionals and FLTs. 40-50 tests is what you need to practice in total. So plan to solve 10-20 tests in remaining days and revise previously solved tests.
  • Mains: You can practice 1-2 answers daily for at least next 15 days as you are thorough with prelims. This will keep your Mains preparation on track as well.

For those who are NOT thorough: If you are not thorough with your prelims preparation then you may do following in last 45 days:

  • Identify left over topics and go through PYQPs and Trends to identify core topics and narrow down what you must cover as not much time is left.
  • Cover the remaining topics of syllabus in next 15 days so that you can dedicate last 30 days for revision. Divide last 30 days into 2 sets of 20 + 10 days and revise content twice.
  • Unlike the first strategy, Aspirants who are not thorough with their preparation cant dedicate much time to current affairs vide newspaper reading and have to rely on shortcuts such as readymade coaching material. You need to save time and complete syllabus and balance current affairs preparation as about 35 questions are asked from current.
  • Tests: As told above, 40-50 tests must be solved to gain confidence. If you have not solved even 10 tests till date then solving 30 tests in 45 days can be a challenge. You should solve at least 20 tests and revise all the solved tests.
  • You cant dedicate any time to Mains preparation in next 45 days as your prelims preparation is not complete.

For both categories of Aspirants as mentioned above, it is important to increase your sitting hours at fag end of preparation.

Also, having self-doubts at this stage is very human and normal but you have to control your nerves. Follow the strategy mentioned above to devise your own timetable and follow the same. This will keep you on track and keep you away from stress and day-dreaming.
