Hi All,
Anna Sinha secured AIR-112 in CSE-21 and she did it while pursuing PhD in Economics! Not only that, she also cracked UGC NET JRF and is trained in Classical music as well as Bharatanatyam.

Following is her strategy/tips in her own words:
Highlights of the interview given at my University, sharing my journey and strategy for the UPSC exam (Interview with Studento and Aspirant Life):
1. Cracking the exam with Self Study is possible, if you are consistent.
2. The Brain is a miraculous machine. People who are working/doing PhD- we do not have time on our hands. But your brain can be trained to have laser-sharp focus to finish the syllabus in extremely limited time.

3. Keep sources VERY limited, and maximise your revisions.
4. Interacting with knowledgeable people like parents , senior friends , #teachers etc. is extremely helpful in helping you grasp a topic better (Helped me synthesise the culture portion well from Ancient and Medieval History NCERTs)
5. For those who do not have access to such people, make it a habit to watch documentaries in your free time. Example: Secrets of Sinauli adds perspective in ancient history
6. For Mains, going through Previous Year Questions is crucial. If you do not have time (I was short on time due to PhD work and other responsibilities), focus on this alone.

7. The interview tests your Personality. Cultivate hobbies, and be #honest about your knowledge all around it. Example: I am trained in Bharatanatyam and Hindustani Classical music and was asked about Kuchipudi and Bidesiya (folkart) . Since I have honestly experienced and read about these arts, I could answer. This may have contributed towards my scoring 195 marks in the PT.
8. Choose optional carefully. I kept economics optional as it has been my domain. However, the booklist is fairly long, and it takes time to prepare it.
9. Be Confident , consistent and honest in your preparation.
We all face struggles , but its part of the journey which makes us stronger...
