What according to you is the most important aspect to get across the line for Prelims or score 425+ in GS? Is it reading, learning, test practice or revision?
In my view it is REVISION as it allows you to retain vast syllabus of CSE and provides you all important confidence to give your best.
PRELIMS REVISION STRATEGY
- Read specified content and make notes.
- Revise notes at least 3-4 times during the course of preparation.
- Revise according to test series plan or create your own plan in line with a test series if you are doing self study.
- Make sure that you give each and every test after proper revision only.
- There is no point scoring 120 in a test if you haven’t revised. Everyday is not Sunday!
- Make notes from tests and revise them regularly.
- Timetable plays the most important role in revision. Regularly update timetable according to the milestones you hit or miss. Daily-Weekly-Fortnightly Time Table
Last 20 days before exam are very important. Revision strategy for 20 days:
- You have to revise the entire syllabus in these 15-20 days.
- Keep relatively tough-important topics for later part of 20 days.
- I used to keep history, polity and geography-environment lists like
wildlife, rivers etc for later part. - Newspaper can be skipped for these 20 days.
- Revise current notes as well as test notes. QUESTIONS DO COME
FROM THEM and you wont like to miss them in exam!!! - Prelims last 25 days strategy

REVISION STRATEGY FOR MAINS
- Read specified content-current and make notes.
- Revise notes at least 4-5 times during the course of preparation. I used to revise all my MAINS notes 5 to 6 times.
- Revise according to test series plan or create your own plan in line with a test series if you are doing self study.
- It is MANDATORY to write 1 test per week.
- Make sure that you give each and every test after proper revision only.
- Read answer format only for questions that you don’t know. For a question that you know well, reading answer format will provide you max 2-3 new points & has low cost-benefit.
- As optional revision is also needed (3-4 times), concise notes shall be kept ready in advance. Then only revision of whole optional is possible in 1 rest day provided before optional exam.
- Ideally, you should write test covering each topic of optional at least once.
- Make a habit of writing GS test in morning and OPTIONAL test in afternoon on same day.
- Keep reviewing your timetable.
- For last 15 days before MAINS, newspapers can be skipped and entire course shall be revised.
- Revise relatively easy subject first.
- Keep GS-1 last and revise society notes for essay paper.
- Ethics shall be prepared so well that you don’t need to study it at all in last 15 days.
LASTLY, follow your gut feel regarding what topic-page-question needs to be revised on the EXAM DAY. Sometimes same question can be seen in exam. But do not over stress on this. Be calm before and during exam!!
